Well, the concepts of “what is Art” and the changing business of selling art are causing me to scratch my bald head as I try to figure out what my next painting will be about, and what techniques/styles I will explore — all the while trying to avoid “gimmicks” and technical repetitions from my own previous works.
In that Mind process I have stumbled across some interesting (i.e. deliciously sarcastic) tirades by artists — about both the present usage of gimmicks, and questionable gimmicks used by Old Masters:
