Define antichrist…

“That day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God”.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (NIV)

I do not believe that the archetype “the Anti-Christ” is anything more than an archetype, and a label for a disgusting personality… or person. It is an archetype that only a mentally challenged, egocentric, power-hungry person who would challenge the authority and authenticity of the Pope would aspire towards. Surely no one would be so self-aggrandising so as to piss off millions of religious persons with blasphemy. However, if I did believe that this was possible, then I would certainly read this article in The Lamp Magazine with eagerness:

Minos.

In an expression of growing impatience,
The disapproving gods comment with a sigh:
“Must we be continually aggravated
by these shadows of a man
of stature and consequence,
now diminished into comic parody
by desperation and delusion?
The truth is that no one
really cares about a star
that has lost its shine ..
A king without a kingdom is
either a pirate or a buffoon.”

NB. Although Carl Orff’s dark and powerful opera “Carmina Burana” is often used to convey the Antichrist in horror films, it is actually a secular cantata based on 13th-century poems that are all about celebration of life, love, drinking, and good fortune.
